[b]So here we are in Quito. High in the mountains, only 22kms from the Equator but the temperature is mild like spring. The city is so different from anything we are used to. On first look it's dirty and run down, but after spending at day you start to notice the little cozy nooks. A coffee shop, or wine bar here and there. And the people have been amongst the most friendly and helpful we've encountered anywhere.
We haven't found the altitude a problem. We rode the cable car up to the top of a mountain right from the city and went to 4100m. Wouldn't recomend trying to run though. But the view was stunning! The whole sprawling city is surrounded by mountains and volcanos!
This picture is from the top of the cable car - Teleferiqo.
That it now, we're off to the hot springs in Papallacta!![b]

Welcome to our on-line journal of our trip to South America! I can't believe it's almost time to go - actually two weeks from tomorrow. Hopefully this blog will help us to keep in touch and you can see what adventures (or misadventures) we get up to.
